We are gearing up to start Season 22 next week! Wow- we have been sharing our love of dance with students for the past 21 years. Time flies! The excitement of beginning a new year doesn’t fade over time. We are just as excited to begin Season 22 as we were to begin any other season. As we reflect and prepare for the new year, I thought it would be fun to put into words the things that are not specific to dancing that bring us joy at the studio. Being part of the studio is so much more than dancing – it’s friends, memories, setting goals, reaching goals, overcoming obstacles, and so much more!
We recently held our Open House where students can come see the studio and be fitted for shoes/dancewear. One moment that always brings me joy is when a young dancer tries on a pair of tap shoes for the first time. As soon as they stand up and realize that the tap shoes make noise, their sweet little faces light up with joy and a huge smile spreads across their face. It is such a sweet moment when we can watch their faces fill with wonder and joy. Another joyful shoe moment is when our older dancers get fitted for pointe shoes and bring in their first pair of pointe shoes to begin pointe work. It is such a huge moment of pride and dedication to dance which is always a joy to see.
Dance is for everyone. We have had the privilege of teaching students who come to dance with some unique challenges. This year a parent reached out to us about having her daughter who is blind take class. We are so excited to share our love of dance with her and have her experience the joy of dance. It is such an honor and privilege for us to have taught dancers with challenges. We want everyone to experience the joy of dance!
Each year at our recital showcase, we recognize our seniors. This moment always brings tears of joy as we celebrate our graduating seniors. Many of the seniors have danced with us since they were little girls, so we get to watch them grow up in the studio. It’s always a bittersweet moment when we celebrate their dance journey.
Another thing that brings us joy is seeing one of our dancers who has battled childhood cancer return to dance this year. She is such a strong, beautiful young lady, and each time we see her dancing, we are filled with awe knowing what she has had to overcome. She inspires us, and it is truly joyful to watch her dance!
The beauty of it all is that whether big or small, joy is all around. We are blessed to watch these joys build and grow within the studio walls and spread into the world. From child-like awe and wonder to overcoming obstacles, we hope that Center Stage is a place that all our dancers can grow and learn and share in each other’s challenges and joyful moments. Bring on Season 22!
