Dance in Leander: How to Choose the Best Dance Class for Your Child

Ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, musical theater, dance/drill, tumble/pom – how do you choose the right dance class for your child?  At Center Stage, we hear this question often as parents peruse the new fall schedule and sign up for the new year.  There isn’t one right answer; however, we can provide you with a few tips to choose a dance class your child will love.  Here are some things to consider when choosing a dance class.

  1.  What type of dancing does your child do at home?  Does she enjoy classical music and do leaps all over the house?  Maybe she would be interested in a ballet class.  Is she constantly tapping her feet to the beat or does she like to sing and act?  If so, maybe a tap class or musical theater would be best.
  2.  What are her goals for dance?  Is she working toward trying out for a competition team?  If so, we would recommend ballet, jazz, and lyrical/contemporary.  If she would like to try out for a school dance team, we might recommend ballet, jazz, and dance/drill.March 17 074
  3.  We also consider age and level when recommending classes.  Our Ballet I, Jazz I, and Hip Hop I start at age 5.  Our younger students enroll in a Ballet/Tap/Jazz combination class to introduce them to the fundamentals of dance training.charm
  4.  Ballet is often recommended for all dancers as it is the foundation of most genres; however, it is only required of our competitive students.

Most importantly, we want your child to enjoy his or her dance class.  At Center Stage in Leander, we are here to help you find the perfect dance class for your child.  Give us a call (512-259-0445) or stop by (1602 S. West Dr, Leander).  We would love to help!
