November Happenings at Center Stage in Leander

It’s been an eventful and exciting month here at Center Stage! The semester has been flying by and we can’t believe the holiday season is already upon us. Classes are well underway and students are certainly showing improvement at this point. Here’s a little update on life at your favorite dance studio:

COMPETITION COSTUMES ARE IN. It’s like Christmas getting to open up boxes on boxes of beautiful dance costumes. It’s also so wonderful to finally have them in our possession after hours of work to get them here. For those curious about our costume process…

We begin by having teachers obsess over look through our pre-selected costume catalogs to search for ideas, and they submit their costume selections by a specific deadline. After reviewing their selections to ensure they’re appropriate and within our budget, we enter the costume numbers into a giant spreadsheet to end all spreadsheets. Next, we collect all costume payments (sorry not sorry) and take the students’ measurements! There are approximately 400 students at the studio this year, so it’s quite a task. We then compare students’ sizes to our costume company’s sizing charts to determine which sizes to order. Nearing the end, we put all costumes in our online shopping cart, and check, double check, triple check the cart. After finally submitting the order, it’s a waiting game until they arrive at the door. We then separate all costumes by classes, label them with names, and pass them out to our students! We love watching the kids’ faces as they open up their new, sparkly costumes and put them on for the first time.

Another recent happening: our Musical Theater Intensive last weekend was an incredible success! Thanks to the families and students who took time out of their Saturday afternoon to dance with us. Ms. Tori instructed the little ones first, and they learned a cheerful dance routine to “We Need a Little Christmas” (can be seen on our Facebook page here). The older group danced to the same song, but with more difficult choreography and technique, of course. The New York City Rockettes use this same track in their Radio City Christmas Spectacular! Our next dance intensive is HIP-HOP with Ms. Diedra on Saturday, January 23rd, so mark your calendars and get your little one on the list.

UPCOMING FUN:

  • Performance at the Living Leander Expo on Friday, November 20th. Several of our company teams will be showcasing their brand new competition routines, so come on out to show your support (admission is free) and get to know other local businesses.
  • Our Frozen Dance Party is next Monday, November 23rd from 10-Noon! For ages 4+ and for only $20, we are going to have a blast with all sorts of Frozen-inspired dancing and activities.
  • Thanksgiving Break is next week. We won’t be having any classes from Monday, Nov. 23rd – Saturday Nov. 28th. Classes will resume as usual the following Monday, Nov. 30th.

We want to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving and safety for those who will be traveling! Thank you for helping us have an excellent start to the 2015-2016 dance year.
