Dance in Leander: A Look Back at 2021!

January and February of 2021 brought us some freezing temperatures and lots of snow which is rather unusual in Leander, Texas! The beginning of January, Dalaney M. received her pointe shoes. This is a huge accomplishment in a dancer’s dance journey. We love celebrating our dancers as they receive their pointe shoes. February brought us the picture above with snow falling in front of the studio!

March brought us our first dance competition of the season. As most everything in 2020 and 2021, it looked a bit different than previous years. We were just happy to be dancing and competing again though!

In April and May, our competitive teams headed to downtown Austin and Bastrop to compete at Rainbow Dance Competition and Dance Showcase. We competed in a block schedule due to restrictions which was quite different than a typical competition schedule, but again, we were just happy to be dancing!

In June, we held our annual dance showcase. Since schools were still not renting their facilities, we had to once again find an alternate location for recital. 2020-2021 threw us several obstacles, but we found ways to keep our dancers performing and shining throughout. We turned this reception hall into an intimate theater setting, and our dancers had a blast performing for their families.

July was a very exciting month for some of our competitive dance groups. We took a few teams to Nationals for Dance Showcase in Dallas. The group pictured above made the Grand Showcase Finals and took home the 3rd Overall trophy! Back at home in Leander, our dance camps were full of young dancers having a blast in Princess Dance Camp and Musical Theater camps throughout the summer.

In August, we had a few more summer dance camps for our younger dancers as well as our company dance camps for our competitive dancers. This is always a fun time as they get to know their new teammates and start learning their new dances for the year.

September means the start of classes for the new dance year! We love meeting all of our new dancers and welcoming back all of our returning dancers. The excitement of starting a new dance year can be felt throughout the studio.

October brings lots of fun at the studio. The last week of October is dress-up week where our dancers come in their Halloween costumes. It’s so much fun to see all of our dancers express themselves during dress-up week. We love seeing all of their fun and creative costumes.

In November, we held our Jazz Intensive. Several dancers attended in our three different age groups, and we enjoyed having Ms. Lindsey as a guest instructor. In November, we also held our annual food drive. This year, we were able to donate over 400 pounds of food to Hill Country Community Ministries in Leander!

December brought several festivities to us starting with our performance at the Old Town Leander Christmas Festival. Our company dancers performed for the community and then enjoyed the festival with their families. Our classes had in-class holiday performances before the break. We also held a Nutcracker Tea Party for our younger dancers and a Holiday Dance Workshop for our older dancers at the beginning of the break.

2021 provided challenges, but overall, it was a fantastic year that allowed us to get back together to do what we love. We were able to make new friends, get together with old friends, learn, grow, create wonderful memories, and of course, dance! We look forward to many more fun times in 2022.
