Dance in Leander: A Look Back at 2020

Each January, I write a blog post with a look back at the previous year. It’s a time to reflect and remember as well as a time to set goals for the new year. This year it is a little more difficult to write this post than previous years. Usually, I post all the fun memories we made from the year, and while we did make plenty of fun memories, it would be untrue to say it was a year full of nothing but fun times. This year proved to be one of the most challenging in the past 17 years of owning my business. It made me reach out of my comfort zone to learn new things and learn how to run my business in a whole new way. I look forward to getting back to “normal” as soon as possible, but 2020 taught us all some hard lessons on how to pivot when life throws the unexpected at you. So here is a look back at our 2020 at Center Stage.

Pointe Shoe Trip 2020 for dancers at Center Stage in Leander

2020 started out as usual in January with our annual pointe shoe trip for our dancers who earned their pointe shoes. It’s always a fun time full of excitement after the students work so hard to earn their shoes.

In February, we performed at the Living Leander Business Expo just as we do every year.

At the beginning of March, we had our first dance competition of the season. We were still able to hug then! Soon everything would change.

We left for spring break, and then we didn’t return to the studio until June! We immediately learned how to teach via zoom. Classes went online, and dancers began taking class in their living rooms. It was challenging, but our teachers and dancers were amazing.

We made two different video projects during our virtual dancing time. They both still make me cry a little when I watch them. The first one we did was “Lean on Me” where several of our dancers “came together” separately to create this beautiful production of what we were all going through during that time. The second one we did was “Better Together” to show support of some of our favorite local businesses. This year has been hard on so many small businesses, so we wanted to show some love and support to some of our favorite Leander and Cedar Park businesses.

We managed to completely change our recital plan to be able to still have our annual recital. We held it at an amphitheater in Leander. It was hot, but we were all so happy to be able to perform. It turned out amazing!

We were able to return to the studio for summer classes with a lot of new safety measures in place. The dancers and teachers were elated to be back to dancing in the studio!

For the most part, classes felt fairly normal in the fall of 2020. We are back to doing what we love – dancing! This fall we also celebrated being voted Best Dance Studio in Leander and Cedar Park for the 10th year in a row! Thanks to all of our awesome dance families for voting for us and for your continued support and loyalty.

Our company dancers were able to perform at the Old Town Leander Christmas Festival. We hope 2021 brings us more wonderful memories and a little bit more “back to normal”. We wish you all a blessed 2021!
